A violinist who is diving into their craft and art to make it their livelihood. That is Sam Schuth. A man with a plan to build his name and art up to his dreams. I admire anyone who has a clear goal and is so focused on achieving it. There is a fire, a real presence when you are around someone who is pushing to make their dreams a reality. As a portrait photographer, I love seeing this side of someone and feel it is one of the truest versions of ourselves that we can show the world. Proclaiming this is what I want and I am going to make it happen.
Sam is a classically trained violinist and not so classically trained fiddle player. Growing up with music all around him the instrument kind of fell in his lap and it came easy to him. Not having to work really hard at it and enjoying the music he was making. It wasn’t until he had to start practicing that he was challenged by his art and having to actually work at it. I think we all have been there. Riding some natural talent in something and then having to work at it almost makes it not fun anymore and the temptation to give it up looms over you.
I think that is what makes a true artist of their craft. Someone who pushes through the self-doubt and “tough” times only to find the joy and thrill of mastering the art. Whether you are a violinist, painter, or financial planner, there is something in each of us that needs to come out. That thing we can’t live without doing and we come alive when we live it. That is our art.
Sam was preparing a concert at the time of our shoot full of music he wanted to play. From classical repertoire to some fiddle tunes with his brother. The plan for the images is for a shiny new website he is building and to then pursue the festivals next year. He has a humble drive to make all this happen. I wish him all the best and know he will do amazing things. Check back soon for his why music video.
