Born into a musical family with all kinds of instruments and occasions to play growing up, it was only natural that Mesa Schubeck continued with music. That ingrained attraction to music was fostered at an early age and became an important part of her life.
Mesa’s earliest teachers were her parents and introduced her to various genres from folk to classical and beyond. As she moved through her school years she was continually inspired by all forms of music and performed with the school music ensembles. She remembers fond memories of performing with a jazz group at the Maine State Jazz festival where the impact of playing music with others was really solidified. Those moments in performances and rehearsals are memorable for any musician but Mesa relates those memories as something special that happens only in those moments and then is gone unless recorded. A unique attribute to music as opposed to visual arts like drawing or painting that can live on physically.
Those deep feelings and moments in the art have produced a profound relationship with Mesa. One that she describes as full-body need. I don’t think I have heard anyone describe their relationship to their art quite like her and it was such a pleasure listening to her talk about why she loves what she does. Thank you Mesa Schubeck for sharing what drives you. Hear more from her through the video below.
As a music instructor Mesa aspires to give every student, regardless if they pursue music as a career, the tools and inspiration to appreciate music and love it. She recently finished a graduate program in piano performance and is also a vocalist.
