Whether it is a zoom meeting, full consultation, or just a quick phone call. These discussion topics can really help you get the best headshots or portraits.
Everyone has their own style that should be taken into account, from your personal style to a photographer’s style of imagery and how they work. Having the conversation is much better than just getting some points in an email or a pdf. The photographer can relate these things to their style of working with clients and their overall finished work. Their insight can guide you to having the best experience in front of the camera.
While there may be other discussion topics that you may want to ask these are some of the big ones that are covered in all of our consultations.
Wardrobe
What kinds of images are you getting done? Family, professional business headshot, Personal Branding portraits for your own business? All of these could lead to different considerations for what to wear. From casual to professional, to even a Glam or GQ look.
Hair, Makeup, Grooming
Is it provided? Should you make an appointment for styling or a cut before the session? Having hair and make-up done for photos is a lot different than a wedding or on stage. When done well, it is meant to enhance your natural features so you look, and feel, like yourself. The best, polished version of yourself. I highly recommend it to anyone, even those who might be hesitant; including men.
Posing, Direction, Guidance
Most people don’t really know what to do in front of the camera so may need some guidance. However, the level of guidance and direction you get from a photographer can vary. Knowing how they work ahead of time can help ease some worry or allow you to be more in control of your own movement and posing. The style of imagery can also determine how much direction. A casual, candid session may not have a lot of specific posing direction but a more styled portrait session can have more detailed instruction from hands to body angles and even inducing expressions.
