What to do with the multiple ideas you have. The first thing, for me, is to act on one idea. It makes the creative process that much easier instead of spinning in circles and no definitive direction.
The vicious cycle of too many ideas but not doing anything with them has been a familiar experience for me. Why am I not acting on them? Maybe it’s overwhelm, maybe it’s doubt, maybe it’s fear, maybe it’s all of those combined. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
These last couple of years have brought out more creative ideas and I am embracing that. Both as a photographer and a business owner. I too have struggled to be able to work through an idea from blurry vision to an actual thing to show for it. Many ideas have stayed in my head only to resurface there and never shared with anyone. Unfortunately, I think it hurts us as creatives, and business owners, to not try to bring it to life.
Why not try this wild idea. Why not roll with the spark in the moment and just create. It’s like working out. The more you do it the easier it can become. That is what I am finding. With this Self-Portrait study, I am leaning into an idea and running with it. This recent image is a great example as I did just that. The idea came when a broken lampshade could be a prop in an image. The other pieces; the lightbulb and having it hover came while I was in the midst of creating. It can feel like magic when everything comes together for the final result.
I am super excited about how it turned out and invite you to lean into your creative ideas no matter how wild they might be. What if it turns out better than you think?
