You have your images, now what? Whether it’s digital files for your business and brand or prints for your family that you want to hang on the wall. Here are some thoughts on what to do with your images.
First things first. Use the images. Put them on display. If you got new headshots, take some time to update all your social profiles and websites with the new image. It will not only be noticed by others on the social channels but will be a more accurate representation of who you are now. For printed images, hang them up, put them in the frame on your desk. They aren’t any good stuffed in a drawer or closet or lost on a hard drive somewhere.
Digital Files
After you update your profiles, organize the files so you can easily find them later. If you are using the images for your business and/or brand put them in a folder and organize them with other business assets like videos, graphics, testimonials, etc. Having your media library easily accessible will have a higher likelihood that you will use them more. I have a folder for my website then subfolders for images, testimonials, etc. All of this is on Dropbox so I can access it from all my devices or on the web. This brings me to another point about digital files. Back them up!
Have backups of files in case technology decides to be grumpy and break down. It happens. Cloud storage is a good solution but can also be subject to data loss and such. I recommend having the files inst least 2 places, if you can, with one being an online version. This ensures that the files are in more than one place. I do this with all of my images from client sessions. They get loaded to a hard drive then that gets copied after every session and edited so the files match just in case a hard drive fails. Finished images are then put in Dropbox for backup and also where I deliver digital files to clients.
Prints
Put your images on display so you can enjoy them every day. That is what you got them for right? Small prints can be framed and put on shelves, desks, tables so you can easily see them. Larger wall art pieces deserve a special place. I recommend knowing where you would want a large printed piece to be hung before your session so the photographer can plan for it. Then, make it the focal point of an area like over the mantle or over a small table in your entry.
