I am truly grateful for the people that I work with. This Artist Profile Project has been more than I anticipated it would be. This latest, with Rob Westerberg, is no different. The people who are willing to bear their passion and be in front of the camera is inspiring.
I have known of Rob for quite some time as one of the leaders in the public school music educators circle. Having a music education background, the name came up numerous times. When he reached out to me for a shoot I was floored, and honored to collaborate with him. We have mutual friends in the music circle here in Maine that I had photographed previously. He said he was drawn to my work because it really captured the subjects spirit and personality more deeply than just a nice photo. There was something more. Probably the best compliment you could give a portrait photographer. Thank you.
Rob has been at York High School in York, Maine for many years and has built that program up to something that all music educators should aspire to. He has brought music to every single high school student as a requirement to graduate. Having the only school in New England with that provision. His passion is the process of creating the music and seeing the growth of his musicians as they achieve things they never thought they could do. A true educator. This photo shoot, he says, marks a new phase in his career and mental shift as he dives deeper into his purpose.
Each of us brings something different to the photo shoot. His passion and purpose and willingness to open up about that. And I the skills lighting and posing. I view every photo shoot is a collaboration between the subject and me the photographer. Watch the video below for more from him. His students are lucky to have him and I’m sure are changed by his teachings.
