Textiles, something we all probably take for granted. The blanket that is on your bed, the curtains on your windows, the shirt on your back. Those things are all made and manufactured by someone, or machine made. I had the distinct pleasure of working with a Textiles Artist recently who has a real passion for her craft and unique approach. Meet Kelsey Haley.
Starting out, this was a path that she says was not even a thought. Art school wasn’t even a thought, but with help from her friends who insisted she apply to Maine College of Art. She got in, and began in photography and printmaking but the draw to work with her hands with materials more brought her to the newly formed major at the time, of Textiles.
As a Textiles Artist, she has produced incredibly intricate pieces from a skirt made of yarn, that you can see part of in the image above and in the video below. I am inspired by her dedication and love of the process and can see her doing wonderful things. From teaching classes, having a facility for classes, studios and retail space, to educating others about the involved process and art that goes into making a piece. She is going places.
A large part of this work I have done with artists and passionate people is the connecting with people and being able to share their passion in a way that is individualized to each person. A dynamic way of telling their story through their work and words with portraits that really connect.
