Juli Ennis, Percussionist | Why Music

A percussionist with aspirations for changing people with her music and seeing some similarities with my own path through music. It was such a pleasure to work with Juli for her senior photos and talk more with her about music. She is off to college next year and continuing her study of music. I am excited to see where she goes.

Juli sure seems to find all the musical activities she can. From Portland Youth Ensembles to a variety of summer music camps, even venturing to another town to participate in their school’s marching band program. She has the drive to challenge herself when it comes to music. And I’m sure whichever school she decides to attend it will be a great experience.

As a percussionist myself, and gone through somewhat similar experiences in high school, I can see a lot of myself in her. The drive and love for playing percussion that was instilled by some amazing teachers. And to further explore where music can take you. Juli is also one of the founding members of Project Playback, a nonprofit that brings music therapy to area nursing homes, working specifically with Alzheimers patients “to help reduce anxiety and foster joyful interactions.” One of the many ways her work with music is already reaching people.

Here are some more image from our session and Juli explaining why music is important to her.
