A Hero Image is one of your most impactful images and can be the first impression people have of you and your business when they come to your website. Make sure you have one that really grabs attention.
If hiring a personal branding photographer, talk with them about this and how you can work that into the session plan.
What is a Hero Image?
A hero image, also called a Banner image, is typically placed at the very top of a webpage as almost a statement image that can be part of the title of the what’s to come on that page. It is usually a horizontal image and may include text overlayed over it. As many people are using their phones these days to surf the web it can also be; or end up being, a vertical or square image as viewed on a small vertical screen. The important factor is that it is engaging and draws the person to want to know more and take up most of the screen space.
If you are a service provider, artist, or creative and people hire you, then this image should be an engaging photo of you that tells a little more of a story about your business, services, or you. Ultimately, you want potential customers to connect with you in multiple ways and then hire you.
I have an image, now how do I use it?
One of the main places to use a hero image is at the top of your website but there are other places you can use it and you may find having several different images to come in handy.
- Social Media Cover photo – This is the long wide image at the top of social media profile pages
