How often do you get a drastic haircut or a change of wardrobe style? I’d say most people go a minimum of a year with having the same hairstyle. Your professional headshot should be no different.
What is the purpose of a headshot? Most instances are for staff directories online or for about me pages on company websites. If you are an entrepreneur and have your own business it may be your entire brand presence. A headshot is a quick way for someone, probably your clients or customers, to make a connection with another person. To see someone to give them a familiar reference point when going to a meeting or visiting a business in person. It should be clean and simple.
If your headshot is from a vacation 5 years ago does that really reflect your business, brand, or professional you?
If it does, great! If not maybe it’s time for a change. As a Portrait Photographer, I recommended updating your headshot every 1-2 years so that your face is a better representation of how you look now.
