Elizabeth Hasbrouck, Pianist and Teacher | Why Music
The love and beauty in music is abundant in everything this pianist and teacher does. I connected with Elizabeth Hasbrouck, owner of Stone Coast Music, on some common themes related to music as the next installment of my Why Music Portrait Project. It was an honor to spend some time photographing her and some of the students in Stone Coast Music Studio.
With a similar connection to a piece of music to the simple notion of beauty through music we chatted about our college days and the experiences that have brought us to where we are today. It was great to connect on that level and her her experiences. From listening to piano music as a child with her mother teaching her at a young age to hearing Fantaisie Impromptu by Chopin at home after her father installed a solenoid system that made player pianos. She performed this as an encore on her graduate recital perfectly capping off her studies. You can hear her perform this in the video at the bottom of this post along with her talking about her unique connection to music.
Liz has a thriving studio in Cumberland, Maine and has several instructors who also teach as well, including other instruments like flute. One of her students was able to come in to be part of the photo shoot and it was great to see Liz do some teaching. You can tell she is passionate for her students progress and pushes them just enough. Something she acquired from studying with Laura Kargul and Anastasia Antonacos at The University of Southern Maine School of Music; which is also my Alma Mater. She has done wondrous things since completing her degrees and I am looking forward to seeing where her studio goes!
Now, invite you to here from Elizabeth herself about her connection with music along with some more images from our session together. Feel free to share!
