Creative Portrait or Headshot?

Kelsey Blanco | Creative portrait

There are times where a traditional headshot is perfectly fine. But why not have something that really shows you. A little more creative portrait. After all, you are the artist and creative behind your life. Shouldn’t portraits show that?

Kelsey Blanco, a Lyric Soprano, is a dear friend with an absolutely amazing voice and dedication to her art. She and her family have moved on to bigger, exciting adventures in Kentucky. Before they left we did a photo session together. It started as a headshot session for her to update her images but then morphed into a wonderful family shoot as well. I love when that happens. A great way to get the best of all possible worlds as Voltaire has said and Bernstein adapted. When your life AND your family is your work there is no separation so why not show that.

I love being a portrait photographer. I really do! There is something about creating a portrait of someone that has so much depth that you instantly connect with them. Part of my process is just having a conversation before the camera even comes out. Just connecting. For me, the results are that much better and I feel there is so much more to the portrait than a smiling face. These types of portraits are where my heart lies and feel it can be a game changer for the artist, creative, musician, anyone really. Something that stands out and grabs you. Do you have a portrait of yourself that does that?

Kelsey and her husband Trae let me do my thing. Some were planned and some were off the cuff, in the moment. Traditional headshots and then a creative portrait thrown in here and there to really help her stand out. Check out more below. So the next time you need “just a headshot” consider having something a little more.
