Connor Ellis is a passionate musician. The dedication and effort he puts towards his craft is inspiring. I am really looking forward to watching his journey through his musical career. I love photographing musicians and hearing their stories.
I met Connor through his mom who plays trumpet in the Casco Bay Wind Symphony, a group that I play in as well. Both of her sons also attended the Southern Maine Music Academy at the University of Southern Maine, where I taught percussion. You may remember Colby’s senior photos.
Connor is considering pursuing music after high school and has a love for playing jazz. Like many saxophone players jazz is one place where their instrument truly shines. He says that he feels more comfortable performing jazz than say a solo classical piece. Mainly because of the improvisation that is part of the jazz idiom. Connor describes it as more free and less restricted to the perceived rules of performing classical music. Mistakes can happen and he feels he can turn those into part of the performance.
As a young performer, Connor, was looking to do some photos that he could use for gigs and performances in the future, as well as some more traditional photos. Timing it right with the fall colors we ventured outside after a more formal studio set. Mom loves the outdoor shots and I’d have to agree especially how the horn compliments the oranges and yellows in the leave.
Be sure to watch his Why Music video at the bottom of this post. Here are some images from the session. Thank you, Connor Ellis, for sharing your passion and love for your craft.
