Receiving awards for something you absolutely love is both incredibly rewarding and completely nerve-wracking at the same time. However, what lies beyond that self-induced anxiety and criticism is something that should be celebrated. That is growth.
As someone who loves working with passionate people who seem to be living their art and craft I feel I need to be doing the same thing. Recently I have started to submit images to The Portrait Masters Awards and Accreditation program in pursuit of becoming a Portrait Masters Accredited Photographer. Something that has only inspired and enflamed my photography and passion for learning again.
This type of work, I now feel, is essential to anyone’s art. The technical and logistical work is one thing but the self-work of knowing your craft and valuing what you do as important is where I have grown the most. I work for my clients but there is also work for myself that needs to be done. That is what goes into any art.
The awards are based on the images being scored. Each score would fall into an award level; bronze, silver, gold. These images are judged by world-renowned photographers, which stands as a little validation that I am improving and working on my craft. The specific award doesn’t really mean a lot at this point. It’s the scores increasing and the self-confidence and skills that are being acquired that is the real take away. Setting the tone for mastering my craft as a photographer and being able to provide images like these to all of my clients.
