Trying new things are worth it in the end. Though it may not seem like it at the beginning. That is what I felt when I started playing in a local sports league, PortSports Social Club. It turns out I would make friends with some amazing people, including the owners. These people you have seen before on this blog, it would be cool to see all the images we have created over the years. That is another post. This post, however, is a new venture into Pilates for one of the owners, and some images we collaborated on.
I’d love for you to meet Morgan Surkin, instructor, and owner of Blue Star Pilates, based here in Portland Maine. This new venture for her is one that I have been a witness and participated in. Having been to my first Pilates class with her, and I enjoyed it. Remember the trying new things mantra? I enjoyed it and can see myself using many of the principles and movements in my own fitness work.
Since Pilates is a lot more of a personal progressive practice I wanted to show Morgan doing some of these movements and exercises on her own. We had a huge room to work with so I basically let her do her thing and just moved around her, with some direction here and there. A fun personality and focused intent are what I was drawn to in her class and when she was talking with me. Hear more from her in the video at the bottom of this post.
A focused personal practice, and some inspirational teachers brought Morgan into the instruction and fitness realm. A traditionally focused, and quiet exercise. Morgan wants to add in some spice with her love of music, and bring more fun into the Pilates culture. Her approach to teaching is very personable and fun, I recommend checking her out. How knows maybe she will be one of the next rising fitness stars.
Morgan is teaching her classes out of Drouin Dance Center in Westbrook and we were very grateful to have use of one of those classrooms for this shoot. Thank you to Danielle and the staff at the dance center, you have a beautiful space. Also, thank you to Mari who joined in on the fun. Check out the interview I did with Morgan, accompanied by many of the images we took.
